Hot Stones and Cryotherapy Massage.

Bonita McCarthy brings something new to the Hands On Clinic for 2026.

I am happy to share that  I have recently added a new skill to my bow.

What I love most about my new training…

The heating and warming function of Hot Stones Massage Therapy, especially in the cooler months is just so perfect to take you into a state of relaxation more quickly.  I travelled to Sherbourn where as a focused group of four we learnt a gorgeous techniques such as how to place warmed stones on pressure points on the back and shoulders whilst then working the back of the legs and  how to wrap the feet closely with a hot stone on the sole of the foot whilst massaging the front of the legs…just divine!

I adore the way the stones are working for you whilst I work on other areas of  your body.

I already understand the benefit of being able to apply both firm and light pressure during bodywork. I found that with the various sized hot stones I am able to do deeper pressure point work, deep tissue work and sublime soothing lighter strokes all with the added benefit of heat or cold. I left my truing day feeling this is therapy that is totally versatile in application -

Great for those who want a slowed down relaxing soothing treat and amazing for those who are looking for deep pressure muscle release.

I was also trained in cryotherapy - the use of fridge cold stones,  I wasn’t too keen on the use of them for full body massage! But I certainly now know they are fabulous for targeting areas of inflammation, for use on tired and locked up calf muscles and for facial massage the cold stones created an incredible contrast of sensation.

 The science behind Cryotherapy

I like to get a bit nerdy and share some of  the science behind the therapy - In contrast to the heated stones Cryotherapy creates a dramatic movement of fluids within the body due to alternating constriction and dilation of the blood vessels.  The use of the cold stones generates healing, cleansing, and nourishing acting as a decongestant, anti inflammatory.  The contrast of heat and cold tones and strengthens most notably the immune system. Cryotherapy has huge benefits but as with all my bodywork I will taylor it specifically to your needs, therefore Cryotherapy is offered as a choice.

I am full of enthusiasm for my new skill and can’t wait to bring this to you at the Hands On Clinic in Braunton from March 2026.
